Le Boniment | Kees van Dongen

Cornelis Theodorus Maria van Dongen (Rotterdam january 1877 – Monte Carlo may 1968) was a Dutch painter who lived in France for the biggest part of his life. With his work he was one of the most important representatives of the Fauvism, a loose group of early twentieth-century Modern artists whose works emphasized painterly qualities and strong color over the representational or realistic values retained by Impressionism.
Le Boniment means something like a lie to please or to sell something. It is inspired by the Cirque Médrano and depicts a dancing girl.
