Gronings landschap | Jan Altink

Jan Altink (Groningen October 1885 – December 1971) was one of the most versatile artists of the Dutch Expressionism. In 1918, he was a cofounder of the artists’ association and movement De Ploeg. It was named in reference to breaking new ground. He used expressionism’s strong and intense color palette, very emotionally connected to Groningen’s landscapes.
Gronings landschap was painted in 1948.

19th floor Castalia

The floor pattern based on Gronings landschap is projected on the 19th floor of Castalia. This is a floor of the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport, so the painting used here reflects on these themes. This office floor holds open and closed working places, meeting rooms and a lounge for informal meeting.
