Orkuveita Reykjavikur

The headquarters of Orkuveita Reykjavikur are based in a remarkable office building characterized by two building volumes connected by a glass atrium. For the renovation and renewal of its interiors, it was key to collaborate with Orkuveita Reykjavikur on matters of revitalization strategy and design. A careful reading of the existing structure has resulted in a series of smart and inspiring interventions.

The existing atrium will remain the central connecting element. Formerly only used for footfall circulation, the atrium will now become a vibrant space for encounters and informal meetings. A three-dimensional sculptural element of stairs and platforms transforms the atrium into the central heart of the company. This addition naturally stimulates encounters and encourages employees and visitors to take the stairs instead of elevators.

Both existing office wings on either side of the atrium will be revitalized by a warm and timeless interior inspired by the company’s heritage. The color palette of the monumental energy plant is used as the basis for this, and results in a unique atmosphere where employees and visitors will feel welcome, comfortable and inspired.

Location visit

For a thorough understanding of the client, the building and the circumstances the HofmanDujardin project team visited Reykjavik. The team organized client focus group interviews and they visited the current and historic landmarks of Orkuveita Reykjavikur. Part of the visit to the Geothermal Power Station, the ancient power plant Orkuveita Reykjavíkur Rafmagnsveita and the Sky Lagoon spa.
