Westpoort Heerhugowaard
HofmanDujardin designed an urban vision for a new unique neighborhood in the city of Heerhugowaard, Netherlands. Living, working and leisure combine around an extended new park. Sustainability and greenery will go hand in hand with the expansion of the city. A vision of the future, Westpoort will become an important hotspot for Heerhugowaard and its surroundings.
The scale of the different urban blocks relates to the adjacent areas. The buildings in the North part relate to the larger buildings of the neighboring business park, while the smaller-scale row housing relates to the existing dwellings. The gradually increasing building heights result in diverse areas with varying densities.
Westpoort is examplary for its strong social sustainability and climate adaptation

Diverse and inclusive programming
The inclusive character turns Westpoort into an environment for both families and elderly people, inhabitants, and entrepreneurs. The plan creates space for a diversity of houses and apartments and integrates a variety of amenities for leisure and work. At the heart of the plan is a luscious green and lively city park. Besides leisure and nature, the park can be programmed with bars and restaurants, markets and events. The concept is designed to connect people and encourage spontaneous encounters.
Smart climate adaptation
Climate adaptation is at the core of the scheme. The optimal orientation of the buildings results in a resilient neighborhood. The park’s continuous green surroundings stimulate physical and mental health. These interventions transform Westpoort into a catalyst for Heerhugowaard’s social and climatological sustainability goals.
